Quick answer

Gear up first on the western coast, cross to The Chest’s small island, then search the beach for buried chests and use your pickaxe at each mound.

You need: a weapon, shields, and enough open inventory space for buried loot.

Route at a glance

  1. Western coast loot
  2. Cross to island
  3. Beach mounds
  4. Dig → open
  5. Boat or cannon out

The Chest is a small northwestern island near Rubber Resort. Its value is not one fixed chest marker: the demonstrated run shows a beach and shoreline covered with buried chest mounds. The trade-off is open ground, so arrive with basic equipment instead of landing directly on the sand unarmed.

Why this route exists: buried chests give you many search opportunities in a compact area, but digging is slow and visible. Treat this as a high-loot, high-exposure stop, not a guaranteed token spot.

Before you land

  • Get a weapon first. The demonstrated player lands on the coast, clears a nearby opponent, and equips a shotgun before moving to the beach.
  • Keep inventory room. Buried chests can produce weapons, keys, sprites, and other items. Drop weak items as better loot appears.
  • Check the circle twice. Digging can take longer than expected. Check the storm when you arrive and again halfway through the beach.
  • Squad split: one player watches the coast while another digs. Do not all face the sand while another team crosses by boat.

Step-by-step buried-chest route

STEP 01

Locate The Chest west of Rubber Resort

Open the island map and find The Chest label northwest of Rubber Resort. The surrounding area is open water and coast, so approach it deliberately rather than wandering northwest after another landing.

Use the zoom control on the chest map to compare the island shape with your match. If your map does not show The Chest, use a current map guide for that match instead.

STEP 02

Take the high ground and loot the first buildings

Start on the nearby coast rather than on the exposed beach. Search the structures and roof spaces for a weapon, shields, and materials. The run also finds a Gilded Dragoon Shotgun nearby, but that is an observed item drop, not a guaranteed spawn.

If another player is already on the island, do not start digging. Win the nearby fight or leave. Digging makes you stand still and gives an opponent an easy shot.

STEP 03

Cross to the beach and identify buried mounds

Move down to the island’s beach. Buried chest positions appear as low mounds in the sand. Walk the shoreline in one direction instead of circling randomly; this prevents missing the strip between structures and water.

Some positions are close together. In the demonstrated run another player has already opened several, yet more remain along the beach. Opened holes and scattered items show where to stop searching.

STEP 04

Dig with your pickaxe, then open or break the chest

Stand beside a mound, equip your pickaxe, and swing until the chest appears. Keep your camera aimed at the mound; the demonstrated player notes that an occasional swing can miss when the angle or timing is wrong. If a swing does not register, stop, face the mound again, and swing once more.

Open the exposed chest normally. If you choose to break it instead, the demonstrated run reports that rewards can still appear, but the normal open prompt is the safer action for collecting everything cleanly. Move immediately after looting.

STEP 05

Use the tower, side rooms, and posters if the beach is clear

Before leaving, check the island’s tower and side structures. The longer run finds loot at several levels and notes that a chest can appear on more than one layer. Do not assume the beach is the only source.

If you find a Sprite Wanted Poster, interact with it and follow its Treasure Map rather than abandoning the island immediately. The poster guide explains the map, red trail, and digging step.

STEP 06

Leave before the circle punishes you

Use a boat or cannon to leave when the safe zone is far away. If the storm is already close, stop digging and rotate. A half-searched beach is worth more than a full inventory left in the storm.

In squads, agree on a leaving time. One player should call the storm and boat position while the others finish the current chest.

Common questions

How many buried chests are here?

The demonstrated run describes roughly twenty possible positions on and around this island, but it does not clear or count every one. Treat that as a high-density example, not a guaranteed current spawn count.

I see no mounds.

Check whether holes and floor loot show that another player cleared the beach. If the terrain differs, your map or match layout may have changed. Search the tower and structures, then rotate.

Does digging improve token odds?

No. More chests means more chances to search, not a proven increase in reward odds. No token drop is demonstrated from this island.
